Fall is here and the colors outside are just beautiful, aren’t they? Â All of the oranges and reds and yellows are just so pretty. Â When decorating for the fall, I don’t make big changes to my decor. Â I may make a subtle change here and there, pull out a few more throw blankets, and some cozy pillows, but I don’t really go into full “fall mode” in the traditional sense. Â I enjoy creating a space that feels the way I want it to feel, regardless of the season. Â My sister once joked with me that as soon as she came in my condo it was no longer winter lol because I had my room filled with bright turquoise and other colors of the caribbean. Â I think that any color can be used to inspire fall decor, it’s all about how you want to feel. Â Here’s a little happy-chic fall dining inspiration, drawn from the some of the changing leaves outside

Halloween is next week, which means Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah are right around the corner. Â I usually wait until close to the last minute to start decorating, but I know many people who are gearing up now. Â I’m really loving all of the fun and stylish decorations available this year. Â I enjoy traditional holiday decor because it always reminds me of home and family, but I also love the fact that you don’t have to stick with traditional if you don’t want to. Â You can style your holiday decor around your home’s style and colors. Â Check out some of the new decor from cb2 (crate and barrel’s sister store) and crate and barrel.

It took me about a year to find my condo that I am currently living in. Part of the reason it took me so long, was due to the outrageous price of homes in the DC Metro Area (you would think we were in the middle of Manhattan or something). The other reason it took me so long was because I was determined to find a place that had “character”. So many condo’s were being built or renovated, that to me, they were all starting to look the same. There were many nice condo’s that I had seen, but I felt like I wanted something with a little more “charm”. I know it’s not for everyone, but I have a thing for old homes. I would love to own one of those beeeaaautiful Victorian homes down in Savannah, GA. I can picture myself sitting out on my porch, drinking a cold glass of lemon ice tea (with mint!), while my crisp sheer white curtains blow in the wind…

So, when I was hunting for my own place to call home, I was looking for things such as beautiful old molding, aged hardwood floors, or vintage tilework. While I love old character and charm in a home, I also like to throw in a little new. With so many of us looking to save money these days, and save the earth as well, vintage is more popular than ever! For those who love that old charm, restoration is the thing, and for those who want something more modern, its all about transformation. For a fraction of the cost of it’s modern-day equivalent, you can own a top quality vintage piece that may just need a little sprucing up. In addition to saving money, a great benefit of buying vintage is the fact that many items constructed in years past, are much more sturdy and durable then items built today (and that goes for homes too!).  With just a few touches, you can go from something with potential, to something stunning!

Other finds are just gorgeous and full of charm just as they are. Â Throw a little windex on this mirror and it’s ready to go!

I want to give a shout out to Gina from Hettle. I recently ordered a couple of her handmade pillows and I got them in the mail yesterday. I LOVE THEM! I love pretty things and I love things that you can’t find in every store. When I saw Gina’s pillows, I was in love, and bought them right away. Which is something I don’t do because I’m so indecisive lol. And to my surprise, my new pillows were soooo soft
I also want to give a shout out to Viv from Ish and Chi. Â I actually found out about Hettle from Viv’s blog. Â Viv also has her own shop where she sells lovely original fabric artwork and prints. Â Take a look. Â Thanks Gina and Viv!!
 Check out my new pillows…

May 10th is the last day for touring the 2009 DC Design house. This beautiful Georgetown home, which has brought together 15 of DC’s top designers in support of Children’s National Medical Center is definitely something to be seen. Anyone interested in seeing the DC Design house in person, can purchase tickets online. And get this, most of the designers’ furnishings in the Design House are FOR SALE! I’m not sure what the prices are looking like, but you never know, you may find a gem for your own home in there
Here’s a sneak peak, courtesy of Washington Spaces
