Today is my Grandma’s Birthday so I wanted to take a minute and make a special post for her and thank her for all of the ways that she has helped me to become the woman I am today.  I have always said that grandma’s are such special people, and I love my Grandma so much!  No matter the situation Grandma is always there for us.  I remember the first time that I realized the strength of my Grandmother as a woman and not just a grandmother.  I went to her with a problem I was having (which was difficult for me because I didn’t like to tell people stuff about me), and the advice that she gave me was so “straight-up” and real.  My Grandmother spoke to me in a way that was way different from past conversations, but in a way that was absolutely what I needed.  I feel so indescribably blessed to have my Grandmother in my life and to know her as Grandma Ruthy, and to also know her as this amazing woman.
ÂÂ
Now even though my Grandma is extremely nurturing, she is also one of the flyest people I know
She loves to shop and bargain for deals.  She’s the type of shopper any true shopaholic would be proud of.  One day I commented on an adorable pair of shoes she had on, and she was like “oh I got 3 pair of these Michael Kors for $20 each marked down 3 times”.  All I could say was “only you Grandma” LOL
ÂÂ
Reflecting on this day, I got to thinking about all of the other things that my Grandma gave me.  Things  that have stuck with me to this day.  Things like…

having Sunday dinner with the family at her and Grandad’s house…
drinking a hot glass of sweet sweet tea in the evenings (and sweet ice tea with mint for lunch)…
ÂÂ
my love of the color red and fly shoes (of course)…
ÂÂ
my very first down comforter in my first apartment in college…to this day, I ALWAYS have a fluffy down comforter on my bed…
ÂÂ
my sometimes talked about habit of only putting lettuce in a bowl and calling it a salad…which is what my Grandma always does and I love it! …
ÂÂ
my love of gold…gold jewelry, vintage & gold mirrors (one of which I found laying around her house some months ago, and is now in my house
)…
ÂÂ
my very first set of dishes in my very own first apartment (living on my own)…I wanted to get them myself since it was my first “single girl” apartment, but she didn’t listen to me and got them anyway.  I am so glad she did because the dishes she gave me are still my favorite to this day and are timeless…
ÂÂ
william sonoma asian plum everything…candles, counter cleaner, soap, hand lotion…we went shopping one Thanksgiving and I fell in love with the scent.  Now everytime she goes to the william sonoma outlet, she brings me a new asian plum item…
ÂÂ
something that has never changed, even though I (and many of my cousins) am grown now, is they way Grandma will sneak us money and shove it in our pockets lol love it…
ÂÂ
the way that she takes care of everyone (and we have a huge family), is the definition of family for me, and I have to say that I have gotten that straight from my Grandmother, as well as passed down through my mother from my Grandmother…not just knowing we’re family, but putting that word into action…
Happy Birthday Grandma!!!!! I love you ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
We should all have one person who knows how to bless us despite the evidence, Grandma is that person to me.
