Artists

I LOVE figure art and there are so many talented figure artists on Etsy.  Figure art is such a beautiful form of feminine expression.  It’s a classical form of art, but some artists have made it much more contemporary, which I love.  Some of my favorite pieces use bright and bold colors and are really hot!   I have been collecting my favorites on Etsy and here they are!  I hope you like them!

This is my print (from Krystyna) which I need to get a frame for.  I haven’t decided where I’m going to put it yet, but I love the colors!  Krystyna was amazing when I contacted her.  The print wasn’t for sale in the shop but I happened to see it in another one of her photographs.  She was kind enough to reproduce the print for me.  Thanks Krystyna!

Whenever someone follows me on Twitter, I always like to check out their webpage, etc.  Imagine my surprise when I clicked the link for Mitchell Kass’ Trend Forum.  Mitchell Kass is a Trend Director, Graphic Artist, and Fashion Designer who has worked with International brands such as Urban Outfitters.  I love the way that Graphic Design translates into Fashion Design which also translates into Interior Design, and Mitchell Kass is amazing at putting it all together.  His blog is so FULL of color & design inspiration it’s crazy.  I hope you can find inspiration in his work too!  Have a GREAT weekend!!

I had to share these installations with you all because when I saw them over on Design Sponge I was literally in awe.  Gabriel Dawe is a Graphic Designer turned Installation Artist.  On a mission to find creative freedom, Gabriel sought out other forms of art in the form of textiles and embroidery.  Using of 50 miles of thread, his installations almost create a sense of euphoria, taking you to a whole other place.  I absolutely LOVE his use of colors and the way that he has combined the threads to merge and create gorgeous dreamy gradations.  I would love to see these in person.

What do you think?  Has anyone seen any of these installations up close?  I believe he has an exhibition in Texas.

Lana Gomez

by Tekesia

Lana Gomez is a Los Angeles based mixed media artist who’s artwork I absolutely LOVE.  I had to share some of my favorite paintings with you all because her paintings make such powerful statements and are absolutely beautiful.  The vibrant and bold colors in her paintings are what caught my attention immediately.  There is such a sense of freedom in her paintings and I love that they are so non-traditional.  I would love to have one of her paintings in my home.  I would probably stare at it all day (lol).

When I saw “work in progress” photos of the community of Santa Marta in Rio De Janeiro I was in awe.  Artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn of Haas & Hahn have taken on the task of of painting an entire hillside in the center of Rio which will be visible to all.  Their hope is to transform the Santa Marta community into an artistic landmark that will uplift the community and instill pride and joy.  They also hope that this project will draw attention to the conditions suffered by those at the bottom of the social hierarchy in Rio.

Before

Work in Progress

I really love what they are doing in this community.  Who wouldn’t want to see this beautiful sight in their city?!  The project is being completed by the artists as well as the home owners and the project is funded by community donations.  What a great way to become a part of this huge art movement!  Another cool thing is that those who choose to donate (a specified minimum amount) will become a co-founder of the project, be credited in their book and documentary, be the first to get information on the opening event and visitation possibilities (I’d love to go to Rio :) ), and will receive a signed certificate and exclusive artwork.

The final Vision

These colors are so vibrant they are sure to uplift!

While I was checking out some of my favorite blogs, I came across a wonderful article by Kelly from Color Sizzle about graffiti becoming a popular art form for home design and fashion and even going glam.  Since I was a kid I have always loved graffiti.  There is just something about the vibrancy of the colors and movement in the creations.  There is no denying that there are some very talented artists who create the murals we see throughout the city.  Not only is it beautiful art work, but it also draws you in with the stories that it tells.  Check out some highlights below and read the rest over on Kelly’s blog.
